Julia Kowal, Occupational Therapist

Julia attended Quinnipiac University for her Bachelor’s in Health Science (2019) and Master’s in Occupational Therapy (2021). She has been at the Parents’ Foundation since January 2021, where she started as a fieldwork student and then after graduating transitioned into the role of OT Coordinator. She has a passion for helping residents to be as independent and involved as possible in meaningful daily activities to support a high quality of life.

Favorite Activities with Residents:

Julia loves working to help residents be more autonomous with self-care and improve functioning in the skills of daily life. Her favorite activities include having meaningful conversations with residents, working with residents to improve hygiene, and motivating them to be involved in the community.

Proud Moments at Work:

“The moments where I have been most proud include when I was able to work on hygiene with a resident who had been overwhelmed with the task of bathing and refusing to shower, and now that resident bathes herself thoroughly and independently on a regular basis. I am also proud of providing skill building materials and instruction in a creative way to help a resident who has no cooking background to prepare meals for himself. Lastly, I am most proud that I have been able to provide residents with dignity in their daily activities, as they learn and grow to achieve their personal goals.”
